Chanel No.5

Hello all, I've been busy lately with so much end of the semester of the work and finals starting next week. I have every second planned out, but of course I procrastinate, so I'd like to share just a bit of love.

I remember being a little girl and thinking Chanel No.5 signified elegance and class, and I was right, but it also means fashion and sexiness and sophistication and being an adult and so much more, all that embodies Coco Chanel too. The new short film for Chanel No.5 is such an inspiration, Audrey Tatou is breathtaking, and it's such a pretty little love story that embodies what you fantasize would happen to you when you wear this perfume. Which I will wear one day but once I reach that point that I can. In the meantime I can see this, dream a little and be inspired for the future...

Warning: Memory Low

Hello all,
I have reached finals week (FINALly!) and my brain has jammed up with information on management, sewing standards, and economics. Of course C. and M. are on top of their game as usual and posting some sweet entries, but I promise once school is officially over, I will be right there with them.

Until then...

"Fashion was parallel to architecture, in theory"

I know all of you must read Nylon, if not go pick up a copy ASAP. In the most recent issue (May 2009) of Nylon I came across a new designer: Julian Louie. He grew up in a artistic family, and went to New York City to pursue architecture after he finished his five year program for architecture he pursued his new love, fashion. He interned for Christ in 2005 where he hand painted chiffon dresses, and then went on to study in Berlin where he learned even more about the industry. His collection for 2009 were inspired by his upbringing in California, with neon colors washed out on wetsuits and dresses with plastic zippers. His spring/summer 09 collection, looking almost futuristic consists of many ruffles, and block coloring throughout mainly dresses.

Here are a few:

Everyone should be on the look out for new up and coming designers, and trends like these!

Matthew Williamson + H&M = Love

For spring and summer, we should all be extremely excited that Matthew Williamson's H&M line is available to us. If you remember, before I mentioned that I really wanted to go big on print for the summer. Well this line is the perfect way to do it. The line includes peacock themed prints, silk and leather, sequins, butterfly prints and ruffles. It's also such an inspiration for my shopping for this summer, I just love the big bold prints and colors that he uses. This is such an amazing collaboration; and this british designer's work hit select stores just a few days ago on April 23rd, and the second round hits everywhere May 14th. The second round will include more women's wear, swimwear and even menswear. Most of us will probably have to wait till May 14th because in New York it was insanity as girls literally snatched things off the rack! So mark your calendars and make a date with the nearest H&M!

Matthew Williamson + H&M really does = pure Love

Introduction: Q.

Hello, Quinn here. Originally from Princeton, New Jersey, I have been residing in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for the past year and a half as an Apparel Design student at Louisiana State University. (I think I will go leave my story of how I ended up in Louisiana for another post. I’m not writing a novel.) I’m also minoring in French and Theatre, but considering double majoring in French. There are so many interesting options in college, I figured why not try to do everything I like while I
can, especially when I’m still young!

Though I’m pretty sure you could just scroll down and read Camille’s intro
ductory entry and basically be reading about me (I’ve come to the conclusion we may be the same person), I am going to expand upon who I am and how I define myself.

I grew up in a very creative, artsy family. My father is a photographer and my mother is a writer. I was always urged to use my imagination and to express my creativity. I guess this background is what eventually led me to my complete infatuation with fashion.
I couldn’t place my style into one definite category. It changes on a day-by-day basis, all depending on my moods and what has inspired me recently. I pull inspiration from everyone and everything, but some inspirations remain constant for me.

I am obsessed with Alice In Wonderland, Marie Antoinette, and Nautical anything. I enjoy the girlish fantasy involved with the first two I mentioned. The story of Alice in Wonderland presents so many interesting characters to pull ideas from, while Marie Antoinette represents one of the first major fashion icons. For nautical themes, I just can’t get enough of blue and white stripes.

Besides fashion, theatre is another one of my loves. Recently I have been trying out a different aspect of the theatre than performance. I am taking a Tutu and Dancewear Design class at the moment and have designed costumes for several studio shows. With my love of theatre, I find myself wanting to create over the top, costumey pieces. I enjoy Christian LaCroix and John Galliano who also find inspiration within the theatre. Especially Galliano with his over the top designs and shows.

I guess I will wrap it
up with just a few more things to know about me. I intend on studying in Paris next year, so get excited for the fabulous Parisian posts (nice alliteration huh). Like my fellow cohorts here, I also very much enjoy music. I love hearing new stuff, but I’m bad at remembering song names and such. Recently, I have come across She & Him and fell in love. Zooey Deschannel is AMAZING and I will definitely have
to post on her later.

Ok, I feel like I’ve only touched the surface of who I am, and that this post is rather scatterbrained compared to Camille and Marissa’s. Those two always seem so much cooler than I do! La de da.
Keep reading my loves!

xx, Q
