Fashion Inside Out

This post for me, is way over due. Last fall I got the opportunity to meet Project Runway runner up Daniel Vosovic and have his latest book Fashion Inside Out signed. Daniel or as I call him "Danny V" (yes I have a pet name for him) is one of my favorite designers through out every season of Project Runway so I was extremely excited. During his book signing he talked about his new book, and what got him to where he is, and what he is planning to do. Honestly it was eye opening to me to listen to him tell his fans about studying abroad, learning from different internships and how he is still learning being a new designer in the fashion industry. I stayed after the book signing to try and steal some more one on one time with him to talk more, which I luckily got along with my two friends. He mentioned how crazy the industry is and how anyone aspiring to be in it needs to work hard and want it. I then asked about interning with him and his company, which he was then nice enough to give an email address and information about someday working with him, you can imagine how excited I was. I still am in contact with his assistant and still hope to soon intern with him, it would be a dream come true.

For now I would like to re- celebrate my meeting Danny V with telling you bloggers that Daniel won the All Star Challenge for Project Runway last Thursday! He made a gorgeous mini collection that was edgy and sporty and included all my favorite colors: black, white and royal blue! I'll leave you with my favorite photo of him in the his book, and the cover of his book. Everyone should go get a copy inside he teaches you how to make patterns, sketch, and about the industry in general! It's a great find.

Modern Day Twiggy

Since the 1960s Twiggy has been a fashion icon in both the UK and the US, but who is becoming the modern day Twiggy? I vote for Pixie Geldof, sister of Peaches Geldof. Not only is her name Pixie, but she's rockin' the pixie haircut just like Twiggy did, but what's different? The style, the clothes, the colors. Here's a recent spread from Vogue UK September 2009 Issue:

Loving the leather, black and studs. I can not wait for fall to try and recreate these looks!

Fashion Photog

Today while bumming around the internets, I discovered the site for fashion photog Rinze van Brug. Rinze has an interesting spectrum of work highly inspired by music. According to his bio, "with new music constantly hitting the scene Rinze utilizes the fusion of music, life and art in his photography". Some of my favorite photographs are posted below.

Go to his site and check out some more of his work, or check out Dutch House of Photography.

Little Miss Precious

I recently picked up the August issue of Elle Magazine, although quite reluctantly since Miley Cyrus was the cover (sorry Q. I know you lover her) but I am so happy that I did. I've actually found that I really love Elle Magazine I think their fashion spreads are amazing, as you can see from the pictures above from the spread "Little Miss Precious." The model is Kemp Muhl and it was photgraphed by Ellen von Unwerth. I love everything about this spread. The girl, look, clothes, make up. I think the whole "girly girl gone bad" is just the perfect look for fall, so I of course had to share!

D.I.Yes!

So C. and I explored Princeton today for our soon to come Fashion Profile of town. On our expedition, after ogling the cute Ugly Dolls and precious handmade-type stuffed animals at Jazams, we decided we must start some DIY in our lives. I remember coming across a few blogs with DIY projects in the past. I searched through my millions of bookmarks to find some must-try items.

I remember about 3 years ago a friend in my fashion class had a tshirt on with an intricate spine print on the back. It was so unique and has stuck in my mind since. On Pixie's Bubble, a great blog for fun DIY alternatives to runway wear, I came across her spine cutout Hane's tee. This is number one on my list to try, though I imagine it'll take a bit of practice to make the design look as good as hers!
Next, I recently received an email from my dad with a DIY video by Threadbanger. "How-to Make a Rockabilly Summer Outfit" shows how to make an adorable 50's styled swimsuit out of a men's collared shirt. (Also, the Grease inspired plot of the video hit close to home since I was Sandy in my HS musical of Grease!) This swimsuit is another definite DIY to try, but will require a bit more skill than perfecting cutting a shirt.

For my last DIY item, I discovered embellished tights that will be oh so exciting once the weather cools down. Now, this project would probably be the most time consuming and concentration/precision based, but Cocorosa gives step by step instructions to make the flirty, unique tights. I want to try making a stunner pair of party tights for winter break. Maybe a black sheer tight with sequins here and there, sort of like a chameleon. We'll see if I have the time in Paris to start creating :)

Well everyone, I'd say it's about time to get crafty and start creating your own DIY amazingness. Until next time... xo.

PS I promise to be posting more now.

In Style

I recently came across a photoshoot and article about Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordin-Levitt from the new film (500) Days of Summer. I luckily got to see the film early in New York City yesterday and loved it, but I wanted to share the photoshoot from the August 2009 In Style magazine.
In love with the setting;
In love with the clothes;
In love with the people;
In love.
